At RISE, we believe every student deserves a high-quality education, and that can only be accessed
through transportation, accountability, governance, and the number of charter school authorizers in our city.
As the ILEA and policymakers develop recommendations for Indianapolis public schools, we’re stepping
up to ensure one thing remains clear: students must be at the heart of every decision.

When policies change, they shape real lives how kids get to school, who makes
decisions for them, what entities that can
open and close schools in Indianapolis, and
what resources they have.
RISE is responding to the ILEA process to
ensure that every decision keeps students not systems—at the center.
We support an elected school board with
appointed seat(s). We also believe school-authorizing structures should be streamlined— having (2)
authorizers to open and close schools in Indianapolis.
Under-utilized buildings should be reimagined into
“world-class learning environments”, not left empty and stagnant.
Adequate investment in every child’s education is non-
negotiable. We support clarity on what “full funding” means—so decisions aren’t made on partial
data or vague terms.
Whether district-run or charter , every school should be
measured on real outcomes: subgroup achievement, discipline reduction, and results for students
with disabilities. Under-performing schools must receive the support necessary to grow, or
consolidate with high-performing schools that are capable of serving all students well.
About 6,000 public school students in Indianapolis don't
have transportation to and from school. No student’s learning should be limited by whether their
school offers a bus. We advocate for a unified system that all schools can plug into.
The ILEA will continue reviewing proposals that could redefine how schools in Indianapolis are
governed, funded, and supported. RISE INDY will stay engaged every step of the way—sharing
updates, elevating community voices, and advocating for decisions that put students first.
